The Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police have intensified their crackdown on the brown sugar trade in the city, arresting six individuals in the past week and seizing contraband worth Rs 50 lakh.
Recent Arrests:
Five people, including Rajendra Mohapatra, were arrested with 254 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 25 lakh. A bike and Rs 3,000 in cash were also seized. Mohapatra has two previous cases against him.
Earlier, Rashmiranjan Bhola, a resident of Khordha's Jalakiya area, was apprehended near Jatni Gate with 265 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 25 lakh. A bullet car and Rs 31,000 were recovered from him.
The police commissioner, S. Debdutt Singh, stated that the accused were supplying brown sugar to youths in Bhubaneswar, with Bhola specifically targeting college students. The police are committed to eradicating the drug network in the city.
