Indian pilot Captain Smit Machhar is being hailed globally for his extraordinary bravery in thwarting a mid-air disaster aboard a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv (Flight FZ1073).
Despite being critically injured in a knife attack by his co-pilot inside the cockpit, Captain Machhar managed to fight back, unlock the door, and enable crew and passengers to overpower the assailant. He then safely executed an emergency landing at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia, saving the lives of all 176 passengers on board. The co-pilot has since been arrested in Saudi Arabia and is under interrogation.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have both heaped immense praise on Captain Machhar. Prime Minister Modi wrote on 'X' that India is proud of the hero who faced grave danger to save others, wishing him a speedy recovery. Netanyahu saluted the pilot, stating that his courage averted a 9/11-style catastrophe.
This act of remarkable grit and composure under life-threatening conditions has drawn worldwide admiration for the pilot's unwavering dedication to passenger safety.
