Odisha’s wildlife is thriving, according to the latest 2025-26 census data released by Forest Minister Ganesh Ramsingh Khuntia. The state’s crocodile population has reached 2,193, marking a healthy 3.54% increase over the previous year. Notable habitats like Satkosia and Tikarpada are home to 65 crocodiles, including 22 young cubs.
The state also remains a premier destination for winged guests, with nearly 2.5 million migratory birds arriving this season. While no rare species were newly categorized, bird enthusiasts have reason to celebrate as seven new bird types were identified—two in Chilika and five in the Hirakud reservoir.
