The holy observance of Dhanu Sankranti began today, marking the start of the revered Pahili Bhog ceremony for Mahaprabhu (Lord Jagannath). This special ritual will be observed until Makar Sankranti.

The first Bhog, offered before the crows crow at dawn, holds unique significance. Today’s initial offerings included rice, wheat, fried cakes, and bows, symbolizing the sacred start of the period.

According to mythological tradition, it is believed that Mother Lakshmi visits her father's house during this time. In her absence, Mother Yashoda takes on the duty of preparing and feeding Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. A key part of the offering is khechudi (a rice and lentil dish) prepared with curd and ghee, along with fresh fruits.

To maintain this tradition, the temple administration has made special arrangements for the unique Pahili Bhog Nitee (ritual). Hundreds of devotees have already gathered to participate in the pious and important day.
