The Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital (IMS & Sum Hospital) paid a heartfelt tribute to a 52-year-old brain-dead organ donor with a guard of honour on Tuesday. The donor, a security guard critically injured in a road accident on August 31, had his liver harvested on Monday for transplantation into another patient at a Bhubaneswar hospital.
According to sources, the family consented to organ donation after the donor was declared brain-dead on Sunday, aiming to save lives.
Guard of Honour was held at the hospital, notable attendees included Prof. (Dr.) Pushparaj Samantasinghar, Medical Superintendent; Prof. (Dr.) Jyortimay Jena, Head of Gastro Surgery; and other senior hospital officials.
Notably, Odisha government confers state honours and ₹5 lakh to families of organ donors.
