Tensions are running high at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, as authorities continue their crackdown on non-students occupying hostel rooms. The eviction drive, codenamed Operation Blue Star, began yesterday and is still underway, with police deployed to ensure the removal of unauthorized occupants.

Non-students were evicted from Hostels 1, 2, 3, and 5 yesterday, with rooms sealed and belongings removed. Specifically, 25 rooms in Hostel 2 and 19 rooms in Hostel 1 were sealed, along with the adjacent canteen.

The VC has warned that illegal occupants will be vacated, and discussions are underway with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to demolish nearby slums.

Today, students from Bani Bihar organization broke into the VC's office, demanding vacation of rented government quarters, leading to heightened tensions.

Eight platoons of police are deployed on campus, with traffic diversions and barricades in place to manage the situation.

The eviction drive aims to restore a safe academic environment, addressing concerns over security, late-night disturbances, and political activities linked to non-student occupants. Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj supports the action, emphasizing the need for a study-friendly campus.
