According to the NCERT, the recently published textbook is only the first volume, and a second volume will be published by September-October this academic year.
What's in the Second Volume?
The second volume will cover regional movements and armed uprisings, including ¹:
- Paik Uprising/Khordha Uprising: A significant event in Odisha's history, which will be discussed in detail.
- Kuka Uprising/Sikh Uprising: An important movement in Punjab's history, which will be explored in the second volume.
Background
The first volume of the textbook covers the first four struggles against the British, including:
- Sannyasi Fakir Uprising (1770)
- Kol Uprising (1831-32) in the Sotonagpur region
- Uprising of the Santal tribe (1855-56) in Odisha, Bihar, and Bengal
- Indigo Uprising (1850-62) in North-East Bengal
The NCERT's clarification aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of India's history and regional movements.
