Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan made a startling revelation in the Odisha Assembly about Deepak Raut, the accused in the murder of lady constable Shubhamitra. According to the minister, Deepak Raut had previously killed his first wife, Aparna, in 2022 to claim insurance money.


Deepak Raut's Confession

- Murder Motive: Deepak Raut confessed to the police that he killed Shubhamitra for ₹20 lakh, which he had promised to give her for their marriage. However, when Shubhamitra demanded the money, an argument ensued, leading to her murder.

- Previous Murder: The Law Minister revealed that Deepak Raut had killed his first wife, Aparna, on March 17, 2022, and made it look like an accident. However, investigations revealed that the truck allegedly involved in the accident was actually in Rourkela on that day, raising suspicions about the cover-up.

- Police Investigation: The police arrested Deepak Raut 10 days after Shubhamitra's murder, and he confessed to the crime, revealing the motive and circumstances surrounding her death.

- Burial in Keonjhar: Deepak Raut had buried Shubhamitra's body in Keonjhar after killing her, and the police recovered the body based on his confession.
