A devastating train accident occurred in Rourkela, Odisha, claiming the lives of two brothers, Ranjan Patra (18) and Jagan Patra (15), residents of Basanti Colony Haripur Basti in Uditnagar. The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Tuesday when the brothers were hit by a passenger train while crossing the railway tracks.
Reportedly, the brothers had picked up their sister from a mobile shop in the market and dropped her off at home. They then returned to the market to get their mobile phone repaired. After the repair, while returning home, they were struck by a passenger train traveling from Barasuwan to Birmitrapur.
Locals witnessed the accident and promptly informed the Rourkela railway police, who recovered the bodies and sent them to Rourkela Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Ranjan Patra worked with his mother at a hotel in Uditnagar, while his sister was employed at a nearby mobile shop.
Jagan Patra was a Class IX student at Uditnagar Government High School.
