The Odisha government has put the district administrations on high alert in anticipation of possible cyclones and heavy rainfall. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that the state is prepared to deal with all situations, citing forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and foreign weather models.


Key Highlights

- Alerts: The IMD has issued a red alert for South Odisha, predicting heavy rainfall, while coastal districts are on orange alert.

- Low-Pressure Systems: Two low-pressure areas are expected to form in the Bay of Bengal, with the current depression likely to move towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra coast.

- Rainfall Prediction: The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms in various districts of Odisha for the next five days, with south and coastal Odisha likely to be affected.

The Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning for 12 districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara, predicting lightning, thunder, and gusty winds.
