In a decisive move to curb rising road accidents, Transport Secretary Usha Padhi announced that bus drivers must now clear a mandatory third-party screening test before hitting the road. This follows a high-level meeting where yesterday’s fatal accident was termed "seriously unfortunate."
A newly formed five-member committee, chaired by Secretary Padhi and including the Transport Commissioner and Traffic DCP, will conduct monthly safety reviews.
Key initiatives include:
Integrated Control Command: Real-time monitoring via the Smart City/Crew Office.
Zero Tolerance: Violations will lead to immediate e-challans and operational bans.
Driver Training: New recruits face a rigorous five-day assessment focusing on lane discipline and behavioral standards.
Incentives: Drivers demonstrating high safety sensitivity will receive performance bonuses.
The department will prioritize lane driving enforcement for the next month, ensuring strict compliance to prevent future tragedies.
