A festive atmosphere turned into a nightmare in Patla village, Dhenkanal, as three Patuas (Danda dancers) were killed and two others critically injured after touching a live electric wire during performance preparations.
The tragedy has sparked massive public outrage, with locals blocking the road at Seven Mile in Hindol. Protesters are demanding accountability and justice, blaming the electricity department’s negligence for the untimely deaths. The blockade has brought vehicular movement to a standstill.
Government Response:
Ex-gratia: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief and announced ₹4 lakh financial assistance for each deceased's family from the CMRF.
Condition: The two injured performers remain in critical condition under medical supervision.
While the "Danda Nacha" season usually brings joy to Odisha, this heartbreaking incident has left the local community in mourning and seeking immediate systemic reforms.
