A construction worker was killed instantly on Thursday after an iron rod fell from the fourth floor and struck him on the head at an under-construction banquet hall along the Kantabanji-Bangomunda road in Balangir district.
The deceased has been identified as Bhabagrahi Patel from Burobahal village under Bangomunda police limits.
Protests & Safety Violations:
Following the tragedy, grieving family members demanded strict compensation from the site owner, alleging a complete lack of safety precautions. Reports indicate that over a hundred laborers at the site were working without mandatory protective gear, such as helmets.
Police Probe:
Kantabanji police arrived at the scene, initiated an investigation, and are probing whether negligence or a lack of protocol contributed to the fatal accident.
