The historic 78th Dhanu Yatra kicks off today, transforming Bargarh into the mythological city of Mathura and Ambapali into Gopapura. For the next 11 days, the city will fall under the command of Maharaja Kansa, the legendary antagonist who takes center stage as the festival's "hero."
The inaugural day features the wedding of Devaki and Vasudeva, followed by the dramatic overthrow of King Ugrasena. To accommodate an expected 15 lakh spectators, the district administration has set up 22 stages featuring over 200 artists.
Event Highlights:
Duration: 11 days of immersive mythological storytelling.
Security: Extensive police deployment and one-way traffic routes to manage massive crowds.
Culture: A grand showcase of folk art and traditional performances.
As the roar of Kansa echoes through the streets, Bargarh solidifies its status as the world’s largest open-air theater, blending faith with spectacular drama.
