Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, affectionately known as the 'He-Man' of Indian cinema, has passed away at his Mumbai residence at the age of 89, according to news agency IANS. The actor, who was recently discharged from Breach Candy Hospital, was undergoing treatment at home.


Born on December 8, 1935, Dharmendra made his debut in 1960 and went on to star in over 300 films across six decades, including classics like 'Sholay', 'Yadon Ki Baaraat', and 'Ghayal'.


His death has plunged Bollywood into mourning. Director Karan Johar paid tribute on Instagram, calling him "a true legend of Indian cinema." The Padma Bhushan recipient (2012) is survived by his wife Hema Malini and six children, including actors Sunny and Bobby Deol.

Celebrities, including Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, gathered at the Vile Parle crematorium to pay their last respects.
