Schools cannot obstruct teachers assigned to national census duties, warned School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gond. Following reports of some authorities refusing to release staff, the department issued a stern directive citing the Census Act of 1948, which renders this work mandatory.
The government clarified that unless there is an extraordinary, valid reason, all designated teachers and staff must be relieved of their regular duties immediately.
Non-compliance is no longer an option; the department has cautioned that any official found neglecting this rule or preventing staff participation will face strict disciplinary action.
As the census is a high-priority national task, the Ministry emphasizes that school cooperation is a legal obligation, not an elective choice. Leaders are urged to ensure a smooth transition for assigned educators to avoid legal repercussions.
