A deepening cold wave has swept northern interior Odisha, with night temperatures 5‑7 °C below normal in many districts. In the past 24 hours, 21 cities recorded lows under 15 °C, while coastal and interior areas saw 3‑4 °C deficits.
Daringbadi remains the chilliest spot; visibility on morning roads is less than 50 m and the mercury has slipped to 8.5 °C, with nearby G. Udaygiri at 8.7 °C. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack logged 15.5 °C and 15.2 °C respectively.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre forecasts a further drop of 2‑4 °C in both day and night temperatures over the next five days, with dense fog expected in Sundargarh and Kalahandi. Residents in some areas are embracing the cool weather by lighting wood fires.
