Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling told the State Assembly that the rise in caesarean deliveries, especially in private hospitals, must be curbed. “If you want a normal delivery, go to a government hospital,” he said in a written reply.

Over the past five years, 30 lakh 8 thousand 383 births were recorded statewide. Of these, more than 23 lakh 69 thousand occurred in government facilities, where 19 lakh 59 thousand 918 were normal deliveries.

Private hospitals accounted for 4 lakh 9 thousand 718 C‑sections and 1 lakh 48 thousand 242 normal births. In total, 4 lakh 90 thousand 505 caesarean deliveries were performed.

The minister urged expectant mothers to opt for public hospitals to reduce unnecessary surgeries and improve maternal health outcomes.
