The air is thick with the scent of incense and chants of "Har Har Mahadev" as millions of devotees observe Mahashivaratri today, marking the sacred Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi.

Temples nationwide are witnessing a sea of Shaiva devotees performing the Jagar Vrat. Commemorating the night Lord Shiva consumed the cosmic poison to save the universe, believers are observing a strict fast and an all-night vigil. From offering Bel leaves and milk to the Shivalinga to the rhythmic chanting of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, the spiritual energy is palpable.

The celebrations will culminate in the early hours with the lifting of the Mahadeep, symbolizing the victory of light over ignorance.

Tradition holds that those who remain awake in prayer—a practice known as Jagar Osa—receive boundless blessings. As the "God of Gods" is worshipped under the moonlit sky, devotees seek solace, believing that Mahadev will dissolve their sorrows and fulfill every heartfelt prayer.
