A 61-year-old man, Rangadhar Mohanty, tragically drowned in a village pond at Nuagaon under the Badambila panchayat of Kendrapara district.
The incident came to light when family members launched a frantic search after he failed to return. They grew suspicious upon finding his slippers, gloves, and walking stick abandoned near the water's edge. Local fire services were immediately alerted, rushing to the scene to conduct a search operation.
Rescue personnel successfully pulled Mohanty from the pond and rushed him to the Ali Community Health Center. However, attending medical officers pronounced him dead upon arrival. The sudden and tragic accident has cast a deep shadow of grief throughout the local community.
