The Similipal Forest Department will remotely remove the tracking radio collar from Jinnat, a tigress brought from Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in November 2024. Similipal Area Director Prakash Chandra Gogineni announced that the collar will come off via remote technology without sedation this coming October or November.
After initially attempting to stray, Jinnat successfully adapted to her new habitat, established her territory, and recently gave birth to four cubs. Because she and her cubs are thriving and the primary conservation goals have been met, continuous tracking is no longer necessary.
Building on this milestone, authorities plan to introduce another pair of tigers from central India during the second phase of the project. Furthermore, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has approved the revival of a similar tiger reintroduction program in Satkoshia, significantly boosting conservation efforts across Odisha.
