Odisha’s rich food culture is poised for global recognition as three traditional delicacies—Dhenkanal’s 'Pal Aaini', Sambalpur’s sweet 'Sarasatiya', and the Puri-Chilika region’s famous 'Manikapatnaar Dahi'—approach GI tag certification.
Speaking at the 65th foundation day of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Vice Chancellor Professor Parvathi Kumar Rawal announced that the application process has reached its final stage. Comprehensive documentation detailing the historical significance, unique ingredients, and traditional preparation methods of these regional specialties has been successfully submitted.
Securing a Geographical Indication (GI) tag will safeguard these heritage foods, preventing imitation while providing them with a distinct legal identity and enhanced protection in national and international markets.
