Residents across the state are bracing for an extended spell of wet weather as the Bay of Bengal continues to be a hub of cyclonic activity. A new low-pressure area is expected to form today (Friday), even as the effects of the previous system have not fully subsided.

A cyclonic circulation currently hovering over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea is highly likely to evolve into a low-pressure area over the southeast and adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal on Friday.

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), this system is forecasted to move west-northwestwards and is expected to become more marked and dense within the next 24 hours.

This renewed weather system is predicted to bring continuous rainfall to the state for the next seven days, with a notable increase in intensity expected on October 27th and 28th.

In light of this, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for 12 districts, warning of the likelihood of lightning and thunderstorms.

A Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for scattered places in the following 12 districts for Friday: Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nayagarh.
