The Kharif paddy procurement season is set to commence shortly, with Cooperative Minister Pradeep Bala Samanta announcing that the process has already begun in Bargarh district.
The State Government is focusing on modernizing the procurement system, announcing plans to establish 100 model mandis over two years. Tenders for 38 model mandis have already been floated, and work has begun.
Infrastructure improvements are also underway, with an allocation of ₹20 crore for constructing godowns in 80 cooperative societies. A total of ₹516 crore is being spent on developing infrastructure across 973 cooperative societies and RMCs.
This year, 19 lakh 67 thousand farmers have registered for paddy sale, indicating the scale of the procurement drive.
