In a major tribute to India’s bravest, the Central Government has announced lifelong free rail travel for all gallantry award winners and their families. This revised Ministry of Railways policy honors recipients of the Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra.
The benefit extends beyond the bravehearts of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Spouses of married winners are eligible for life, while widows retain this privilege unless they remarry. For unmarried awardees, the benefit extends to their parents.
Proving that no comfort is too great for our heroes, the policy covers premium travel in AC 1st Class, AC 2nd Class, and AC Chair Cars across all train categories.
Effective immediately, this move recognizes the extraordinary sacrifice made during war and counter-insurgency operations. By providing seamless connectivity across the nation they protected, India ensures that the journey of its protectors remains as dignified as their service.
