A brutal cold wave is sweeping across the region, sending temperatures tumbling to record lows. Shimilipala recorded a freezing -1°C today amid fresh snowfall, while Jharsuguda hit a chilling 5.6°C early this morning.

In Mayurbhanj, the situation remains critical as Chahala and Gudigudiya shivered at 2°C, and Barehipani recorded 5°C. The capital hasn’t been spared either, with the mercury settling at 11.6°C.

The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Warning for 11 districts, predicting dry weather for the next 15 days.

While residents struggle with the biting chill, a dense fog alert has been sounded from January 12th to 14th, threatening to further disrupt normal life and transport.

Officials advise citizens to take necessary precautions as the bone-chilling conditions are expected to persist through mid-month.
