Following a high-level review of anti-Naxal operations in Kandhamal, ADG Sanjiv Panda announced on Friday that Odisha is on track to become Maoist-free by March 2026. The statement comes after the neutralisation of top Maoist leader Ganesh Uika, a veteran of 39 years whose death has severely crippled the insurgent network.
ADG Panda praised security forces for their success in the recent Kandhamal encounter, where massive caches of explosives and materials were seized. With the leadership vacuum, the state expects a surge in surrenders.
Strategic Highlights:
Major Blow: The death of Ganesh Uika, who led the movement in Odisha, is a turning point.
Ongoing Operations: Additional teams have been deployed to flush out remaining units.
Surrender Appeal: Authorities have urged active cadres to shun violence and join the mainstream.
"We are working on a special strategy to meet the March deadline," the ADG confirmed.
