Life came to a standstill in Chandbali block today as opposition parties BJD and Congress enforced a six-hour shutdown (6 AM to 12 PM). The protest follows the harrowing rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl, whose body was discovered Tuesday in a forest near the Baligaon Panchayat office.
Led by BJD MLA Byomkesh Roy, protestors blocked major roads by burning tires and picketing, forcing shops, schools, and offices to remain closed. While the primary suspect was apprehended by police in Jagatsinghpur, the opposition continues to demand the "severest punishment" and enhanced safety for minors.
