The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved Delhi Metro Phase-5A, a massive expansion project aimed at boosting connectivity and reducing pollution. Union Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw announced that three new corridors spanning 16 km will be added at a cost of ₹12,015 crore, featuring 13 new stations.
Project Highlights:
Corridor 1: RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (9.9 km) – A vital link for 60,000 central employees and Bharat Mandapam visitors.
Corridor 2: Aerocity to Airport Terminal 1 (2.3 km).
Corridor 3: Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km).
The expansion will push Delhi’s network beyond 400 km, maintaining India’s rank as the world's third-largest metro system. Expected to be completed in three years, the project will cut 33,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, offering a major green alternative for the city's 65 lakh daily commuters.
