Balangir’s own Captain Dhiraj Agarwal has emerged as a national hero after a daring mission during the escalating Iran-US conflict. As the Middle East war choked global supply lines, India faced a critical LPG shortage when commercial shipping through the Iranian-controlled Strait of Hormuz ground to a halt.

Commanding the vessel Nanda Devi, Captain Dhiraj was stranded in Iran for 15 days amidst the chaos. Displaying extraordinary courage and tactical skill, he successfully navigated the ship—loaded with 46,000 metric tons of LPG—through the high-risk zone and safely back to Indian shores.

A resident of Kantabanji and son of the late Ramesh Agarwal, Dhiraj’s bravery has not only relieved India’s cooking gas crisis but also made Odisha proud.

His family and the entire nation are celebrating the safe return of the man who stared down a war to keep India’s kitchens running.
