Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister K.V. Singh Deo announced in the Assembly today that Odisha aims to provide free or subsidized electricity to 3 lakh households via the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana by 2027.
Responding to BJD MLA Ganeshwar Behera, the Minister detailed a phased roadmap to bolster clean energy:
2024–25 Target: 50,000 households.
2025–26 Target: 2,50,000 households.
Current Status: As of February 10, 2026, 36,537 solar projects have been successfully installed, achieving roughly 22% of the initial goal.
Interest in the scheme is surging, with 1,79,815 beneficiaries already having applied. The initiative is a cornerstone of the state's strategy to reduce carbon footprints while easing the financial burden on residents. Singh Deo emphasized that the government is streamlining the subsidy process to ensure the remaining 2.6 lakh installations are completed within the next 14 months.
