The Sambalpur district administration has officially sealed the Shyam Metallics factory in Rengali Pandaloi following a direct mandate from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Despite a closure order issued on March 30, the company continued operations, forcing the State Pollution Control Board and police to intervene and enforce the shutdown.
Why was the action taken?
Environmental Violations: Classified as a "Category 17" heavy polluter, the plant was found contaminating local air and water.
Repeated Non-Compliance: Following inspections in 2024 and 2025, a fresh probe in March revealed ongoing irregularities in its Iron and Steel and Sponge Iron units.
While the plant is now closed and guarded by police, the factory office remains open. Employees are permitted to enter only upon presenting valid identity cards. This decisive move marks a major victory for environmental safety over industrial negligence.
