General darshan at the Puri Jagannath Temple will remain suspended for five hours on Wednesday, August 12, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, due to special rituals for Chitalagi Amavasya.
According to the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the temporary closure follows the first Bhogamandap Bhog to facilitate sacred rites for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The highlight of the festival involves placing a gem-studded golden chita back onto the deities' foreheads, a tradition observed annually following its removal before Rath Yatra.
Chitalagi Amavasya, celebrated during the Shravan month, also holds cultural significance through the preparation of traditional Chitau Pitha, a rice-based cake enjoyed across Odia households. Devotees planning a visit are advised to adjust their schedules accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the ritual hours.
