Odisha has made a significant stride in renewable energy, installing rooftop solar systems with a total capacity of 38.12 MW across 3,163 government buildings. Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yasho Naik shared the update in the Rajya Sabha, responding to an inquiry by MP Dilip Kumar Rai.
While these projects receive no Central Financial Assistance under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, they remain economically viable. Implementation is supported through Central Public Sector Enterprises and state agencies like OREDA.
Building on this momentum, a subsequent phase has identified 925 suitable structures out of nearly 1,960 assessed buildings under the RESCO model, requiring an estimated 79.56 MW of solar capacity. This expansion highlights Odisha's growing commitment to sustainable public infrastructure and clean energy integration.
