A somber wave has hit Kandarpur village in Cuttack’s Athagarh area after a bathing trip turned fatal. On Thursday, six local youths swept into deep waters while bathing in the Amangai Mahanadi river.
Despite immediate rescue efforts by locals and the fire brigade, two victims identified as Chinmay Das and Sipu Mishra were declared dead upon arrival at Athagarh Medical College. The remaining four youths were rescued in the nick of time but remain in critical condition as they undergo emergency treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest the accident was caused by sudden immersion in a deep stretch of the river.
Local police have launched an inquiry, while the community mourns the loss of two young lives.
Authorities have once again cautioned residents against venturing into treacherous currents during the summer months.
