Bargarh: Girl Dies After Severe Burns in Firingimala Village

A 13-year-old girl from Firingimal village in Bargarh district, Odisha, died while undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla. The girl was rescued in a half-burnt condition from a football ground in Firingimal village under Gaisilat police station limits on Monday morning.


Incident Details

- Rescue and Condition: The girl was found burning in the backyard of her house by a nearby neighbor, who extinguished the fire. She had severe burns on her body.

- Statement: According to the girl's statement, "some girl wanted to kill her." Petrol bottles and matches were found in the backyard.

- Investigation: Balangir SP Abhilash G, in charge of Bargarh, confirmed the girl's death. A team of three IICs has been formed to investigate whether it was a case of self-immolation or if someone set her on fire.


Police Investigation and Response

- Unnatural Death Case: Police have registered an unnatural death case based on complaints by the girl's family members.

- Video Recovery: Police claim to have recovered a video related to the incident.

- IG Statement: Northern Range IG Himanshu Lal stated the girl was staying in a hostel and had come to her maternal uncle's house before the incident.


The incident has caused a stir across the state, being the fourth such incident in Odisha within a month involving young women allegedly setting themselves on fire.
