Severe cyclonic storm 'Arnab' is accelerating toward the coast and is expected to make landfall between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM on October 28, earlier than initially forecast.
Currently tracking west-northwestward at 18 km/h, the storm is centered about 90 km southeast of Kakinada and 170 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that 'Arnab' will cross the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam—specifically between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, just south of Yanam—as a very severe cyclonic storm.
Upon landfall, sustained wind speeds will reach 125 to 135 km/h, with violent gusts up to 150 km/h. The system is bringing torrential rainfall and severe risks of widespread destruction to coastal districts.
Local authorities have ramped up precautionary measures and emergency evacuations as the dangerous core of the cyclone begins pushing ashore. Residents in affected zones are advised to stay indoors and follow official safety directives.
