Following a high-level review meeting chaired by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, the Odisha government has announced the closure of Anganwadi centers and schools in eight vulnerable districts from tomorrow (October 28) till October 30th.

The affected districts include Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Ganjam.

Minister Pujari emphasized the state’s commitment to achieving 'zero casualty' from Cyclone 'Montha'. Preparations are complete down to the Panchayat level.

Officials confirmed that water is being released from reservoirs as a precaution against potential Mahanadi flooding if the storm causes heavy rain in Chhattisgarh after crossing Malkangiri.

Over 200 storm shelters have been prepared, and vulnerable residents, including approximately 250 pregnant women, are being evacuated. The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow government instructions.
