A major robbery took place late last night in Hatpada under Bonai police station, where a widow and her daughter were allegedly tied up and robbed of approximately 40 grams of gold and ₹25 lakh in cash.
The incident occurred around 12:32 am. According to the victim, five masked men armed with guns and assault rifles forced their way into the house after one of the house staff, who claimed to be ill, called the woman to the door.
The robbers tied up the woman, her daughter, and the staff. They also reportedly beat the staff members and threatened the daughter with rape to force the woman to hand over the valuables. The robbers, who claimed to know the family had more assets, took all the gold and cash available.
The Bonai police have launched an immediate investigation following the complaint. SDPO Ramachandra Biswal stated that initial clues have been found, suggesting the involvement of an insider, and expressed confidence that the accused will be apprehended soon.
