A series of harrowing fire incidents gripped the capital city within 24 hours. A major blaze erupted at Nilapadma Apartment near Jharpada’s Ganesh Mandap, tearing through the second and third floors. Three fire tenders battled the flames, which are suspected to have started from an AC short circuit.
While 20 residents were heroically rescued, two elderly individuals, a woman, and a child sustained injuries and are hospitalized. The fire gutted furniture and spread rapidly across multiple flats, causing extensive property damage.
Meanwhile, a separate midnight fire in the Chintamanishwar area destroyed a car and partially burnt two other vehicles. CCTV footage has revealed a breakthrough: a masked individual was caught intentionally setting the car ablaze at 3:30 am before fleeing.
While the apartment fire appears accidental, the Laxmisagar police have launched a manhunt for the suspected arsonist in the vehicle fire case.
