In a major win for flyers, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has directed the DGCA to ensure that 60% of aircraft seats are now available to passengers free of charge.

A key highlight of this policy is prioritizing adjacent seating for passengers on the same PNR, finally ending the struggle of families—especially those with children, the elderly, or the sick—being split across different rows.

Beyond seating, the new guidelines mandate a passenger-friendly approach to transporting musical instruments and sports equipment.

Airlines must also establish transparent policies for pet travel and provide real-time updates on delays or cancellations across all digital platforms and airport counters.

To improve accessibility, travel information will now be shared in regional languages, ensuring all passengers stay informed.

These reforms aim to replace hidden "seat selection" fees with a more empathetic, transparent flying experience.
