Following the horrific fire at Cuttack’s SCB Medical College that claimed 13 lives, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered the immediate suspension of four high-ranking officials.
The action targets those found negligent by a high-level fact-finding team led by the Development Commissioner.
The suspended officers include:
Prakash Jena (Deputy Fire Officer)
Sanjib Behera (Assistant Fire Officer)
Abhinav Prashti (Station Officer, SCB)
Ranjan Kumar Biswal (Assistant Executive Engineer, GED)
In addition to these disciplinary measures, the Chief Minister has announced ₹25 lakh compensation for each bereaved family and ordered a formal judicial inquiry to uncover the root cause of the disaster.
This swift crackdown underscores a "zero tolerance" policy toward administrative lapses that compromise public safety.
While the suspension offers a sense of accountability, the upcoming judicial probe aims to ensure such a "premature loss of life" never recurs in the state’s premier healthcare facility.
