In response to the blistering heatwave sweeping through the state, district administrations in Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam have announced temporary school closures to ensure student safety. With temperatures soaring and hot winds making outdoor activity hazardous after 9:00 AM, the following measures are in effect:
District-Wise Schedule:
Malkangiri: All schools (Nursery to Class 12) are closed from April 22 to 25. Teachers must attend from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
Gajapati: Holidays declared from April 22 to 24 for all students up to Class 12.
Ganjam: Schools will remain closed from April 21 to 23.
Essential Exceptions:
Despite the closures, board exams, 5th and 8th-grade supplementary exams, and census duties will proceed as per the original schedule.
The Meteorological Department warns that these extreme conditions are likely to persist for the next seven days, with the most intense heat expected through April 23.
Local authorities emphasize that these steps are vital to protect children and staff from heat-related illnesses during this unprecedented weather surge.
