A senior revenue assistant clerk, Hemant Kumar Perei, working at the Byasnagar Tehsil office in Jajpur district, has been caught accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 by the vigilance team. Perei allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Laxmidhar Sahu, a resident of Barundei area, to demarcate the boundaries of his private land.
Perei demanded a bribe from Sahu to perform his official duty, which Sahu initially resisted due to financial constraints.
Frustrated by Perei's insistence, Sahu approached the vigilance department, leading to a trap being set.
The vigilance team apprehended Perei while he was accepting the bribe in his office.
Perei was caught red-handed by the vigilance team and is likely to face further investigation and action.
The vigilance department will investigate the matter and determine the extent of Perei's involvement in bribery.
