Growing lawlessness by the liquor mafia was on display in Bodapoda village under Nayagarh Sadar police station, as an excise raid turned into a violent ambush. Three excise constables—Keivalya Swain, Deviprasad Padhi, and Neela Lohit Mallik—sustained injuries during the coordinated assault.
Acting on a tip-off regarding illegal smuggling, a team led by Excise IIC Suresh Chandra Tandi moved into the village, only to be met with fierce resistance. The liquor mafia launched a sudden attack, forcing the team to retreat while tending to the wounded.
The police have since registered a formal case and detained one individual in connection with the violence. IIC Tandi emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway and stern action will be taken against the perpetrators. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety of law enforcement officers tackling the organized liquor trade in the region.
