On the holy occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Shree Jagannath Temple witnessed a surge of spiritual fervor as Mahaprabhu gave darshan in the rare and exquisite Makar Makara chaurasi Besha. Marking the Sun's auspicious Uttarayan journey, the temple administration implemented a special schedule to accommodate the thousands of devotees flocking to the 12th century shrine.

The intricate rituals began early with the Patta Paharan and the installation of the Makar Chaula at the Trimundi. Following the Mahasnan and Gopal Ballav rites, the deities were adorned with the "Malachula"—magnificent floral ornaments crafted from fragrant blossoms and Tulsi, traditionally provided by the Jagannath Ballav and Bada Odia Maths.

A highlight of the day is the Makar Chaul Bhog, prepared using special rice provided by the Alamchandi Temple at Kumbharpada. This unique blend of ancient tradition and seasonal transition reaffirms the deep cultural bond between the Sun’s movement and Jagannath culture.
