As the Sun begins its northward journey into the Capricorn sign, Odisha has erupted in vibrant celebrations for Makar Sankranti. Marking the end of winter, the festival was observed today with traditional rituals and deep spiritual devotion.

At the heart of the festivities is the iconic Makar Chaula Bhog. Families across the state prepared this sacred offering using freshly harvested rice, jaggery, chhena, coconut, and bananas. This "Makar Chaula" is offered to household deities and rice fields as a gesture of gratitude to the Sun God for a bountiful harvest.

In various regions, the air was thick with excitement, ranging from traditional cockfights to solemn temple prayers. In Puri and beyond, special rituals like the lighting of the Makar Chula followed the auspicious Patta Paharana of the deities.

Whether through the sharing of Poda Pitha or the gathering of "Makar" friends, the day beautifully united agriculture and spirituality.
