A 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh paralyzed Nayagarh today as the Jai Nayagarh Foundation intensified its demand for a district medical college. From 6 AM to 6 PM, shops and local markets remained shuttered in a peaceful show of public strength.
While the town observed a total standstill, organizers allowed vehicles to ply to ensure students could reach their examination centers without disruption.
The unrest follows the recent state budget, which approved a Homeopathic College for the region. While residents welcomed the homeopathic facility, the Foundation insists it is not a substitute for a full-scale Medical College at the Sadar headquarters.
"We have been demanding this for years," a Foundation spokesperson stated. "A homeopathic college is a good start, but Nayagarh needs a dedicated medical institution to serve its people." The protest concluded peacefully, but the demand for modern healthcare infrastructure continues to echo across the district.
