Chief Minister Mohan Majhi revealed in the Assembly today that Odisha is grappling with 94,485 vacancies across various government departments. Responding to MLA Chakrimani Kanhar, the CM highlighted a significant manpower shortage despite recent hiring streaks.

The School and Mass Education Department is the hardest hit with 20,289 vacant positions. Other critical sectors facing deficits include:

Housing Department: 16,032 vacancies

Health Department: 10,457 vacancies

While the administration has recruited 39,555 employees between June 2024 and February 2026, the gap remains substantial. Insiders warn that these empty desks are severely hampering administrative efficiency and the delivery of essential public services. With nearly 100,000 roles unfilled, the pressure is mounting on the state to accelerate its recruitment drive to maintain governance standards.
