Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar to inquire about the health condition of a 20-year-old college student who attempted to kill self by setting herself on fire due to alleged harassment by a teacher at Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore. The student's condition is currently critical, with 90% burn injuries.



- A high-level committee has been formed by the Higher Education Department to investigate the incident.

- Strict action will be taken against the culprits based on the committee's report.

- The student is receiving treatment equivalent to that provided at AIIMS Delhi.

- Opposition parties BJD and Congress have protested against the state government over the incident.

- BJD students and youth surrounded the Chief Minister's residence, while Students' Congress protested outside the Higher Education Minister's residence.

- The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo-motu cognizance and directed the Odisha DGP to investigate and take strict action within 3 days.
